How much does a roll of sod weigh? (2 × 5 ft roll, 1 to 60 rolls, zoysia slabs, per square foot)

A 2 ft × 5 ft roll of cool-season sod (10 sq ft) weighs 15-30 lb (6.8-13.6 kg). CT Sod publishes the pallet, not the roll: its 500 sq ft pallet weighs 750-1,500 lb for 50 rolls, and its 600 sq ft pallet 900-1,800 lb for 60 rolls, the same per roll. Dry sod is at the low end, wet sod at the top. Warm-season slabs (zoysia, bermuda, St. Augustine and centipede) weigh 8.8-20 lb each. Below: one roll or slab, 1 to 60 rolls, a square foot, and what fits in a pickup.

How much does a roll of sod weigh?

15-30 lb (6.8-13.6 kg) for one 2 ft × 5 ft roll: CT Sod gives 750-1,500 lb “depending on moisture” for a 500 sq ft pallet of 50 rolls, and 900-1,800 lb for 600 sq ft of 60 rolls, which is 15-30 lb a roll again. The farm does not weigh single rolls, so the roll carries the pallet’s spread: dry sod at the low end, wet sod at the top.

How much does a roll of turf weigh in the UK?

Rolawn, the UK grower whose 1 m² rolls (610 mm × 1,640 mm) the calculator starts from, states no roll or pallet weight on its turf pages (read 2026-09-20), so this page gives no UK figure: ask the grower.
