How many square feet in a pallet of sod? (400, 500 and 600 sq ft pallets, rolls and slabs per pallet, pallets for 100 to 2,000 sq ft)

A pallet of sod holds 400, 500 or 600 square feet: 500 sq ft is 50 rolls of 2 ft × 5 ft (10 sq ft each), 600 sq ft is 60 of the same rolls, and warm-season grasses (zoysia, bermuda, St. Augustine and centipede) come as 150-170 slabs of 16 in × 24 in on a 400 sq ft pallet (CT Sod, read 2026-09-29). Pallets for a lawn = area × (1 + 10% for cuts) ÷ the square feet on the pallet, rounded up: 500 sq ft of lawn is 2 pallets of 500 sq ft (1 full pallet plus 5 loose rolls), 1,000 sq ft is 3. Other farms load other pallet sizes; ask yours and type its rolls per pallet into the sod calculator.

Square feet, rolls and slabs on a pallet of sod

CT Sod publishes three pallets. Cool-season sod (tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass and other cool-season sod) comes as 2 ft × 5 ft rolls, 50 to a 500 sq ft pallet or 60 to a 600 sq ft pallet. Warm-season grasses come as 16 in × 24 in slabs, 150-170 to a 400 sq ft pallet. That is how much sod is on a pallet at one farm; other farms cut other sizes, so how many rolls of sod on a pallet you get depends on where you buy.

Square feet per piece = width × length in inches ÷ 144. A roll is 10 sq ft, so 50 rolls make 500 sq ft; a slab is 2.67 sq ft, so 150-170 slabs cover 400-453 sq ft. CT Sod lists that pallet as 400 sq ft.

How many pallets of sod for 100 to 2,000 square feet?

Lawn × (1 + 10% for cuts at edges and curves) ÷ the square feet on the pallet, rounded up to whole pallets. The last column is the same lawn in 10 sq ft rolls on the 500 sq ft pallet, as the sod calculator splits it: whole pallets plus loose rolls. Farms that sell loose rolls let you skip the last part-pallet, which is why how much sod per pallet matters less than the rolls you need.

How much does a pallet of sod weigh and cost?

Weight is CT Sod’s, dry to wet, with the slab pallet up to 4,000 lb when drenched. The price is a derived figure: the calculator’s starting $9.00 roll of 10 sq ft is $0.90 per square foot (CT Sod), times the square feet on the pallet, before delivery. The farm’s price drops with volume and varies by grass: tall fescue adds $0.10 per sq ft, and CT Sod gives no price for warm-season slabs, so that row has none.

Pallets of sod for an acre

An acre is 43,560 sq ft: 109, 88, 73 pallets of 400, 500, 600 sq ft before any extra, and 120, 96, 80 with the 10% for cuts. For ¼ to 5 acres, with the weight: how many pallets of sod for 1 acre.

UK turf: rolls, not pallets

Rolawn, the UK grower the calculator starts from, sells turf by the 1 m² roll and states no rolls per pallet or pallet weight (read 2026-09-20). A 500 sq ft garden (46.5 m²) takes 49 rolls with Rolawn's 5% extra. Rolls and cost for UK gardens: how many rolls of turf do I need.

Work it out for your lawn

The sod calculator loads the 500 sq ft pallet (50 rolls). Change the rolls per pallet to 60 for the 600 sq ft pallet, or to your farm’s count, and it recomputes the pallets, the loose rolls, the cost and the weight.
